Casa Fontana-Silvestri - Milan

The Casa Fontana-Silvestri on Corso Venezia in Milan was built in the twelfth century, but its present appearance (at the turn of the Gothic and Renaissance styles) from the late fourteenth century. It is also called "Ca' del Guardian" because in 1476 there lived Angelo Fontana, keeper of the East Gate, then next to the house, demolished in the nineteenth century.
It is one of the few Renaissance buildings survived in Milan.
Once the facade was covered with frescoes (Bramante or, according to other sources, Bramantino) now practically disappeared: some rest is known only a little below the cornice.
It has been suggested, but without documents that prove that Donato Bramante may have designed the brick decorations.
In 1961 the building was the subject of restoration work, intended to restore the appearance of the Renaissance, in which emerged a few openings and windows dating back to a pre-existing Gothic building, which were then left exposed by Ferdinando Reggiori, who ran restorations.
